Chuck Mello received a BS degree in Electrical Power Technology with a co-major in Naval Science from Oregon State University in 1972. After 6 years active duty as a commissioned officer serving in various ship engineering officer positions, he went to work for Electro-Test, Inc.
Starting in 1977 and going through the end of 2003 he held a number of positions from Field Engineer to Manager Conformity Assessment with Electro-Test Inc (eti). As a field engineer Chuck conducted many projects of acceptance testing / commissioning and maintenance testing of power distribution systems. Chuck’s last position with eti was as the Manager Conformity Assessment overseeing two NRTL laboratories, field evaluations, SEMI evaluations and CE evaluation operations on a corporate wide basis.
In January 2004, Chuck left eti and began work for Underwriters Laboratories as the Field Evaluation Program Manager where he oversaw the overall business for field evaluations within UL to ensure UL provides rapid response and consistent operations globally. He continued to participate in development of standards and guidelines for Field Evaluation competency and practices and was a key author and contributor to the two new NFPA standards on these subjects.
At the end of 2016, Chuck retired from UL and is now providing consulting services for electrical training and specific project work. He is providing these services from his own company, cdcmello Consulting LLC.
