Bio for Mike Miller
Mike Miller is president of Miller Electric, Inc. in Watertown SD. His electrical career started as an apprentice for Engelstad Electric in 1971. He and his wife, Marilyn, started the company in 1978. Miller Electric, Inc. is an electrical contracting firm employing seven electricians. They specialize in industrial, commercial, and residential wiring. Mike has a current Electrical Inspectors License as well a North Dakota Master Electrician License. Mike was born and raised in Watertown and graduated from Watertown High School in 1969. He attended South Dakota State University for two years and then joined the National Guard where he was commissioned a second lieutenant He spent 10 years in the National guard and was the commander of the Flandreau SD unit at the time of his departure from the military. Mike and Marilyn have 4 children (Michelle, Rick, Jason, and Angela) and 3 grandchildren. Over the last 10 years, Mike has developed a passion for teaching in that sharing knowledge is much like sharing gifts. In the past 5 years he has provided continuing education for electricians with Lake Area Technical Institute in Watertown. Because of a growing demand without geographical boundaries, he started an instructional business where he travels throughout the state providing new 8 hour courses annually on the National Electrical Code. Many electricians across the state have enjoyed his presentations for continuing education credits. He is also a religious education instructor for Holy Name Catholic Church in Watertown and has been for 21 years. Once a year, he spends a day at the Watertown Middle School discussing electrical theory with seventh graders. Mike is a board member of the Greater Watertown Affiliate of Habitat for Humanity. He was the first and now is the past president of the Brookings / Watertown SDEC chapter. His spare time is spent doing carpentry work and spoiling his grandchildren. Mike has been a member of the South Dakota Electrical Council for many years and is presently the President of the State Board of Directors. He is also the Membership Committee chairman.
